Mary Eberlein, LCSW
I'm Mary. I'm glad you are here.
I know that finding the right therapist can be a bit of a slog. Hopefully what you find here feels like a fit.
My work moves in two directions at once. We look back - at the early experiences and relationships that shaped you - because understanding where something comes from can be freeing. And we look forward, using those insights to move toward a life that feels meaningful, not just endured. What brings people to therapy is usually that life feels hard right now. Sometimes, as we work, it becomes clear that the roots go back further. The past and present are both part of the work.
A bit about my path.
I grew up on the U.S. Gulf Coast (you'll hear this in my accent!) and spent my first career teaching computing at the college level. What I loved most about teaching was the same thing that eventually pulled me toward therapy: a genuine connection with people, and the chance to be helpful during something hard.
I went back to school and earned a Master's degree in Social Work from UT-Austin. Before private practice, I worked as an inpatient therapist, which means I'm comfortable sitting with people in crisis. I also worked as a hospice social worker, supporting patients facing a terminal diagnosis and their families. My hospice work brought together everything I now do in private practice: grief, family dynamics, relationships under pressure, and what's been carried for years finally rising to the surface.
On a more personal note, I am a married mother of two amazing young adults. Some of my favorite things are cuddly dogs, mystery novels, Austin's walking trails, and time with my family and friends.

If you've read this far and feel like the way I work resonates with you, I'd love to chat. Please reach out to arrange a free consultation.
